Halifax Tool Library Reaches Crowdfunding Goal 9 Days Early

by Halifax Tool Library

The Halifax Tool Library is ecstatic to announce that we have reached our crowdfunding goal of $8000 nine days before the deadline of May 10th.

With 122 supporters, the project has reached $8221. A single, currently anonymous resident, contributed $1000.

“Words can’t express the extreme generosity the Tool Library has been shown,” says co-founder Kelly Schnare. “People kept donating hours after we reached our goal. It’s humbling to be a part of something residents are so excited to make happen.”

The funds will pay for rent, insurance and tool maintenance. Going forward, membership fees are projected to allow the non-profit to be financially self-sufficient.

An enormous variety of tools have so far been donated, including table saws, circular saws, a chainsaw, power drills, crow bars, planes, sanders, tool belts, levels, hatchets and much more.

“As of right now, this project is 100% volunteer run, is stocked with 100% donated tools, and is 100% financed by the community,” says co-director Neil Bailey. “I challenge you to feel cynical about this city.”

Residents can still pre-purchase their year-long membership to the Tool Library by contributing to the crowdfunding campaign. “Having those memberships now will help us get our feet under us in those crucial first weeks” says co-director Charles Verge.

The not-profit is currently finalizing details to move in with Bike Again, a bike repair co-op, in a space on Almond Street in June.

On Thursday May 1st, one dollar from every beer purchased from the North Brewery Co. will go to the Tool Library. A silent skills auction and concert will also be held at 2539 Agricola Street in support of the cause.

“Now is the fun part,” says volunteer Casey Meijer, “where the library begins to shape its identity, come alive and give back to the community that made it a reality.”
