FYP Between The Lines hosts ecofeminist panel discussion

Activists and profs talk about Francis Bacon's legacy for today

NSPIRG's FYP: Between the Lines is hosting its first lecture and discussion of the semester: "Uncovering Nature's Secrets: Becon's legacy for a generation in ecological and feminist crisis."

The discussion, featuring Gordon McOuat of the University of King's College and Susan Dieleman of Dalhousie University, will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday, Jan. 31. The event will be held in the Senior Common Room at the University of King's College Arts and Administration builiding. There is no cover and everyone is welcome. 

Gordon McOuat will discuss contemporary feminist critiques of Francis Bacon and his legacy, including ecofeminist criticisms. Susan Dieleman will provide an analytic look at ecofeminism, and ask if ecofeminism is a tenable philosophy or an ultimately essentializing, reductive one. The floor will then open for questions and discussion.

"This discussion is an opportunity to use a feminist, activist lens as we look at Bacon's writing and his legacy of scientific discovery," says  FYP Between The Lines co-ordinator Katie Toth, who is organizing the event.

FYP: Between The Lines is a project of the Nova Scotia Public Interest Research Group, a non-profit, non-partisan and non-governmental organization. NSPIRG's mandate is to link research with action for social and environmental justice within an anti-oppression framework.
