ATLANTIC CANADIAN YOUTH LEAD ACTIVE-8! CAMPAIGN FOR GLOBAL CHANGE

HALIFAX - Eight Atlantic Canadian youth are being recognized for their inspiring contributions at home and abroad and are being named Youth Ambassadors by the Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (ACIC). The eight were chosen from among other youth in Atlantic Canada between the ages of 15-30 who have played an active role in the areas of social justice and environmental sustainability. Each Global Youth Ambassador will be profiled nationally with other youth leaders across Canada in recognition of their efforts to build a better future.

The eight selected finalists are: Kyle Warkentin – Halifax, NS, Taylor Quinn – Halifax, NS, Hilary Swan – Fredericton, NB, Haruho Kubota – Sackville, NB, Bobby Cameron – Hampton, PE, Noah Richardson – Summerside, PE, Donovan Taplin – Bell Island, NL and Sabrina Andrews – Grand Falls-Windsor, NL.

The Active-8! Campaign kicks off with International Development Week (February 3-9th) with a launch of the campaign website and each Global Youth Ambassador promoting activities in theirprovince throughout the month. These eight inspiring youth are inviting individuals and groups to make on-line commitments of action to create positive change at home and around the world. The Active-8! Youth Ambassador obtaining the most pledges will win a grand prize of $1000.

“These Active-8! Ambassadors exemplify the spirit of young Atlantic Canadians who are playing an active role making our communities better, locally and globally,” says Hana Nelson, the Active-8! Campaign Coordinator for ACIC. These eight are excited to inspire and motivate others to join them. Through them we have hope for the future.”
