For One Day Halifax is a Treasure Trove of Digital Media

PodCamp 2013 Delivers Another Intense Array of Presentations

by PodCamp Halifax

Halifax, NS–PodCamp Halifax is once again overflowing with savvy presenters and eager participants as it enters its fifth year as an unconference for digital media. Over 35 hosts are set to present to more than 400 Atlantic Canadians at Alderney Gate Public Library on Sunday, January 20, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

“Halifax has an incredible talent pool of innovators who love to share their expertise,” says Craig Moore, one of the founding organizers of PodCamp Halifax, “The sessions that come in every year show that this region continues to be a hub of innovation for people working on the leading edge of digital media.”

PodCamp Halifax 2013’s sessions reflect a variety of interests within the world of digital media. The talks range from business-oriented tactical tips to conceptual talks.  “Typically, there are no clear trends each year,” says Ian Conrad, one of the organizers. “Some are annual favourites, such as ‘State of the Social Media in Atlantic Canada’ by Giles Crouch, and some explore hot topics like ‘Hacktivism, DDos & #Anonymous’ by Jon Blanchard. What they do share is a look at what concerns people in digital media today.”

The success of the unconference model is seen in the number of people it attracts annually. “Registration at PodCamp Halifax grows by at least 20 per cent each year,” said Craig. “When we posted the free tickets this year, they were gone within 48 hours so we knew we had to add more.”

Registration for PodCamp 2013 is currently full, but there is an option to sign up for the waiting list.  Visitpodcamphalifax.ca to sign up.

About PodCamp Halifax

Podcamp Halifax was first launched in 2009 by Ryan Deschamps, Jon McGinley, and Craig Moore.  After its third iteration, Tracy Boyer Morris and Joanne Macrae from the Hub Halifax joined the team, as well as friendly neighbourhood web designers Nick Brunt and Ian Conrad.  A Podcamp is meant to have an open, participatory, user-generated series of presentations, discussions, or workshops. The people who attend are the presenters. In typical unconference style, audience members are encouraged to make the most of the experience by following their interests and allowing the conversation to flow both in and outside of the presentations.
