Lessons From the Chilean Student Revolt

Teach-In featuring Valentina Latorre Vice-President of the student federation of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile

- 8:30pm
Mercredi Janvier 18 2012

Venue: St. Mary's University

» More information
This year Chilean university and high school students have taken over schools and city streets in the largest protests the country has seen in decades.

Students in Chile have held mass protests, general strikes and occupations to call for more government funding for uni...versities, the end of the privatization of their institutions and free post-secondary education. Just like students here in Nova Scotia, students in Chile have rallied behind the idea that education is a right, and not a privilege.

This Wednesday January 18, 6:30PM join Halifax-area students at a teach-in at Saint Mary’s University (room to be announced) on the fight for a quality and free education system in Chile featuring Valentina Latorre Vice-President of the student federation of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.

On February 1 students in Nova Scotia will take to the streets to call on the government to restore funding to post-secondary education and reduce tuition fees as part of the national student day of action on February 1, 2012.
