She will be reading from a selection of her plays, and there will be a Q&A following her reading. All are welcome.

Colleen has received numerous awards for her works, including the 2014 Carol Bolt Award for Pig Girl, and the 2007 Governor General’s Literary Award for Drama, the CAA/Carol Bolt Award and the Enbridge Playwrights Award for The December Man (L’homme de deìcembre). She has also won two awards in the CBC Literary Competition for the radio dramas Fire-Engine Red and Pumpkin Eaters, and is an award-winning filmmaker whose films have played in festivals around the world. She is currently the 2015-17 Lee Playwright in Residence at the University of Alberta, and has been Guest Playwright at Edmonton’s Citadel Theatre since 2010.

Colleen’s play The December Man explores the private pain inflicted by public violence through the story of a fictional student who survived the tragic event that resulted in the deaths of 14 women at l’École Polytechnique in Montreal on Dec. 6, 1989. The December Man is being produced at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa in November in the run-up to the commemoration of the Montreal Massacre on December 6th.

This event is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Playwrights Guild of Canada, and the Mount's Department of English.
