» More information

An advisory group of members from around the province has proposed the following goals for the meeting:

1) Review the status of poverty reduction in Nova Scotia in terms of: a) what has/has not been accomplished over
the past seven years; b) where things stand at present in regard to a provincial PRS

2) Discuss how we can move the agenda forward (e.g., through advocacy, organization and communication) at local and provincial levels.

Small group discussions will:

  • Provide an opportunity for policy interest groups to share information and discuss ideas and opportunities for concerted action locally and provincially on major poverty reduction policy themes (e.g., Income Assistance; Employment Support; Housing and Homelessness; RuralTransit/Transportation; Early Learning and Childcare
  • Provide an opportunity for regional groupings of participants to share information and consider action on poverty reduction in their communities/regions

3) Discuss the idea of a CSEP Provincial Report Card on Poverty Reduction as a strategy to raise the profile of poverty reduction at policy and political levels, as well as in our communities.

4) Consider how we can organize ourselves and better communicate to advocate for a stonger Poverty Reduction Strategy in Nova Scotia

More information on the program will be forthcoming.

Note: We will be able to provide gas money for participants not covered through other means. Though CSEP has limited financial resources and we cannot cover accommodation costs, we may be able to assist with expenses for those who wish to attend but have limited or no access to financial assistance from another source.
