World Food Day was founded by the United Nations’ (UN) Food and Agriculture Organization , and has been observed every October 16 since 1981. The event was established to increase awareness of world hunger and poverty and to inspire solutions for world change.

 

What is the Face of Poverty Consultation (FACE)?

FACE works to increase aware-ness of poverty issues among our members and within our faith communities, as well as to promote policy and action by government to improve conditions for those living in poverty.

Mission Statement: We are called - to be in solidarity with the poor, the marginalized, the vulnerable, and the alienated by increasing our understanding of the painful realities imposed by poverty and breaking the cycle of indifference to problems that affect all of society.

- to educate our respective faith groups as to the causes and impacts of economic, political, and social inequity on the human condition. This will require new attitudes and sacrifices to change patterns of power and policy.

- to speak truth and justice to the powerful so that they understand that the attainment of full human dignity is a blessing for all society and join the work to create a society that is compassionate and just.

 

Directions: Christ Church Hall is located behind Christ Church which is on Ochterloney St. in Downtown Dartmouth between Wentworth and Dundas Streets. It is on bus routes 54 and 62. It is a short walk from the Dartmouth Ferry Terminal. Leaving Alderney Place (by the library), cross Alderney Drive, turn left, and walk to Ochterloney Street, cross Ochterloney Street, and walk 4 blocks up Ochterloney Street to Dundas St. Turn left. The hall is on the left at the end of the block.
