National March for Sex Work and Solidarity

- 4:00pm
Samedi Juin 8 2013

Venue: Meet at Bloomfield Centre at the corner of Agricola and Almon

» More information

Join Stepping Stone as we march together with sex worker solidarity organizations across Canada to recognize the need for sex workers voices to be heard and for their rights and safety to be valued.

We will start at 2pm at the Bloomfield Centre at the corner of Agricola and Almon and march in silence to represent the voices not heard when policies and laws regarding sex work are decided. Our route will follow the stroll and end at the police station on Gottingen Street. Sex workers and their allies are welcome to attend and walk with us in black with red umbrellas, the international symbol for sex worker solidarity.

Background:
As many of you know, in September 2008, sex workers and allies celebrated a landmark ruling that would effectively decriminalize sex work. The government has appealed to the Ontario Superior Court.

On June 13th 2013 these three laws will again be revisited in the courts at the level of the Supreme Court of Canada. This will be the first time in Canadian History that the Supreme Court of Canada will be deciding on the constitutionality of the criminalization of Sex Work.

Sex Workers Will Be Heard: The (not so Honorable) Justice Richard Wagner of the Supreme Court of Canada has decided, in denying sex worker led organizations intervenor status in the hearing, that our voices do not matter, Join us on June 8th for a day of action where WE WILL BE HEARD!
