This participatory presentation will focus on how trade liberalization affects global immigration trends, and trickles down to negatively affect immigrants, refugees, and people living without status here in Canada. This presentation will locate immigration in historical context, and then look at the present context, encompassing refugee trends and regulations, migrant workers' programs, NAFTA and narco-trafficking, and a highlight of recent injustices within the immigration system. Finally, a discussion will ensue about organizing around these issues here in Halifax.
