Atlantic Regional Solidarity Network Annual Gathering

Vendredi Novembre 9 2012 (Toute la journée)
-
Dimanche Novembre 11 2012 (Toute la journée)

Venue: Tatamagouche Centre

If you are interested in issues that affect Latin America and the Caribbean, this is the gathering for you. Activists and interested participants from around the Maritimes gather to meet, network, plan and strategize on issues in these regions and explore what is going on, how we are affected and what we can do about it. It’s a great weekend to find ways to get connected with global solidarity and social change.

This year's theme is Movements: North and South. We will be exploring movements of resistance and creative alternatives in Latin America and in Canada. We will explore movements in defense of territory (against mining and drilling), the Colombian peace process, immigration rights and justice, labour organizing, and much more. Speakers and resource people for the weekend include, among others, Cory Wanless (lawyer with Klippenstein's law firm representing Guatemalans involved in civil suits against HudBay Resources and Jessica Ernst in her suit against Encana), Cathy Gerrior (a Mi'kmaq Elder and Ceremony Keeper who visited communities affected by mining in Guatemala), and Garry Leech(independent journalist, editor of Colombia Journal, author of several books and lecturer at CBU). This year we will also have a parallel program for children, making this a more accessible and family-friendly event.

Please send in your registration ASAP to Brian O'Neill at oneillnatural@gmail.com. A limited number of bursaries are available, so register soon!
