It’s time to start a conversation about transparency in government! Join the debate hosted by the Centre for Law and Democracy on September 28, International Right to Know Day.

 Did you know:

  • The right to information is internationally recognised as a human right.
  • But many global governments have an abysmal record on transparency. The United States is in 38th place out of 92 countries around the world with access to information laws, while the United Kingdom ranks 25th.
  • Citizens in every country are routinely denied access to information on what their tax dollars are paying for.

Want to get engaged on this issue? The Centre for Law and Democracy, an international NGO that specialises in transparency and the right to information is hosting a workshop here in Halifax on September 28: International Right to Know Day. The workshop will be at the Hub, 1673 Barrington Street, from 12 pm - 1 pm. You can sign up for free here: http://right2knowday-eorg.eventbrite.com/, but we are also happy for you just to drop by.

We want to hear your questions, comments and opinions on the right to information, transparency and fostering a proper system of accountability. We want to use this day to celebrate the Right to Information and try to bring national laws up to global standards.

If you cannot make it to the workshop, you can follow the discussion on twitter at @law_democracy or on our facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Centre-for-Law-and-Democracy/164303533623512.

Send us your thoughts, and please be sure to tune in on Sept 28 to hear the conversation unfold.
