As part of the Sustainable Transportation Task Force, the Planning & Design Centre is working with the Active Transportation Alliance, CleanNS, Halifax Cycling Coalition, Jordi Morgan (News 95.7), Ecology Action Centre & OurHRM, Dalhousie Office of Sustainability and CKDU to host a Mayoral Candidates Debate. The debate will challenge the candidates to describe their vision for moving people (mobility) in HRM. The debate questions will examine the role of transportation in contributing to a high quality of life for the region and the importance of transportation in allowing HRM to be sustainable and economically competitive in the future.

We will be hosting the debate on September 24 at 6:30-8:30 PM at the Spatz theatre at Citadel High School. Jordi Morgan of News 95.7 is going to moderate the event and the Planning & Design Centre’s Sustainable Transportation Task Force will be hosting the event. We will be looking to gather ideas for the  format and questions building up to the event. The extensive work completed by the groups and organizations that are part of the Sustainable Transportation Task Force will be integrated into the questions for the debate, informing the priorities for mobility and sustainable transportation in HRM. The goal for the debate is to have the many organizations working in the areas of mobility and sustainable transportation to come together and present their Vision for Halifax, build support at the municipal level for these ideas.
