The Shubenacadie Watershed Environmental Protection Society (SWEPS) is completing a stream restoration project in the Bennery Brook Stream across from the Big Stop in Enfield. The project involves building in stream structures to attempt to restore the natural characteristics of the stream. It also extends beyond the site-specific in stream work, and assesses the activities of residents in the watershed area and their use of, and influence on, the water "shed" into the Shubenacadie Watershed. This project was developed to not only improve the habitat for aquatic species in the stream, but to educate the community on how to keep their drinking water safe and to increase their awareness of their personal effect on water quality.
