NO Lockheed on Campus! No Lockheed in Halifax!
Stop university support of war profiteering! Unwelcome Lockheed Martin
to summer job fair!

Tuesday February 10th
Meet @ in the Cunard Centre Parking Lot (961 Marginal Road,or Pier 23) at 12:30.
(to get to the Cunard Centre, get to Lower Water Street, go in the direction of Point Pleasant Park. You will intersect with Marginal Road.)

This action is in response to Dal, SMU and MSVU co-organizing a summer job fair on Feb 10th that will include Lockheed Martin, the world's largest weapons manufacturer.

The event will start with background information about the efforts to
have Lockheed Martin removed from the summer job fair, as well as the
ethically morbid $2 million research connection between Lockheed and
Dalhousie. The group will proceed to rally outside the Cunard Centre,
where the career fair is occurring, then the Weapons Inspection Team
will attempt to go inside to have Lockheed inspected and and responded
to accordingly.

Transportation:
If you wish to take the bus from the universities, all Dalhousie, SMU
and MSVU students with a valid student id will be able to take the
prepared job fair buses to the location and can join the group of
Lockheed opponents who will be waiting at the said location (above).
If you are leaving from any of the co-organizing universities, take
the 12:00 noon bus from any of the following locations:
SMU - Behind Gorsebrook Lounge (next to arena entrance)
Dal - Beside the Student Union Building (at 12:10 at Sexton Campus)
MSVU - Seton Academic Centre (Main Entrance facing the Bedford Hwy.)

Brief background on Lockheed:
Lockheed Martin is the World's largest arms manufacturer, with a 2007
revenue of $41.86 billion (US). They literally make a killing from
war, profitting greatly when conflicts arise, which was witnessed when
their stock more than doubled after the Bush began the "War on Terror"
in 2001. Lockheed makes the F-16 fighter jet which was used in the
recent Israeli attacks on Gaza that killed over 1300 Palestinians. The
Lockheed - Dalhousie connection is particulary interesting considering
the fact that Lockheed produces cluster munitions, AND, on 3 December
2008, Canada signed the UN Convention on Cluster Munitions, which
demands that signatories do not: (a) use cluster munitions; (b)
develop, produce, otherwise acquire, stockpile, retain or transfer to
anyone, directly or indirectly, cluster munitions; or (c) assist,
encourage or induce anyone to engage in any activity prohibited to a
State Party under this Convention.

Another way you can show opposition is by calling the relevant number
below and registering a complaint (about Lockheed or any of the other
attendees, http://halifaxcareerfairs.com/students/summer_job_fair_exhibitors):

Dal Career Services: 494 - 3537
SMU Student Employment Centre: 420 - 5499
MSVU Career Planning Centre: 457 - 6567
Dr. Tom Traves (Dalhousie President): 494-2511
Courtney Larkin (DSU President): dsupres@dal.ca
