Halifax

ACORN Nova Scotia Reception

Celebrate More Than Two Years of Victories & Leadership Development

6:30pm
- 8:30pm
Thursday March 19 2015

Venue: Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre
Address: 2158 Gottingen St

Help Support:

  • Digital Access to Opportunities
  • Landlord Licensing & Healthy Homes
  • Income Assistance Reform
  •  A Living Wage

Come out and celebrate ACORN Nova Scotia’s organizing for justice, meet ACORN leaders, and learn about ACORN's victories.

We have had many important accomplishments over the past two years, both locally and nationally:

  • Organized strong chapters and neighbourhood leaders in North End Halifax and North Dartmouth.
  • Development of a municipal bylaw to strength housing standard enforcement and introduce landlord licensing in Halifax.
  • Brought Eastlink to the table to develop a program for digital access for low-income families
  • First Living Wage Victory in Canada in New Westminster, BC.
  • Increased the Ontario minimum wage to $11/hour and indexed to inflation.
  • Payday Lending Legislation Ontario and BC

We need your support to continue our organizing and leadership development efforts in low and moderate income communities.

Now is the Time to Act!

With a shoestring budget and limited resources, over the past two years we’ve been able to establish ACORN Nova Scotia and organize low-income people in largely unorganized and hard to reach communities. The work we are doing is already making a real difference in the lives of low-income Nova Scotians. We rely on community to make our work possible so we can remain truly grassroots.
