Equal as Citizens - the tumultuous and troubled history of a great Canadian idea

Book Launch by Richard Starr

7:00pm
- 9:00pm
Monday August 4 2014

Venue: Writers Federation of Nova Scotia
Address: 1113 Marginal Road

This is an Author/publisher event with Richard and Jim Lorimer in conversation.

The book traces the history of the idea of equal citizenship, tracking its gradual erosion, and proposes how it can be reframed in a twenty-first century context.   The book starts right back at the slap dash flawed beginnings of our confederation and tracks all the efforts since to level the playing field for all citizens across Canada - with an emphasis on the Maritimes.  It takes direct aim at the pundits and neo-conservative think-tanks who callously classify the provinces as "makers" and "takers".  It's gutsy, carefully-researched and rebalances the discourse in a much needed way.  The book is available at Bookmark (5686 Spring Garden Rd.), Chapters, and by online order through formac.ca

Refreshments will be served and copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing by the author.
