In spite of the cancellation of the 2013 Energy Rush concert series, Love Does, a concert in support of Halifax area women’s shelters featuring Amelia Curran, will still take place on August 31 at The Company House.

“The issue of domestic violence is still overwhelmingly present in society, and the cancellation of one concert series doesn’t change the need for ongoing conversation and awareness,” explained event co-organizer Chantal Caissie this morning following the official announcement from Drop Entertainment Group. “We didn’t set out to change or cancel anything happening at Alderney Landing, but to raise funds and awareness for our city’s women’s shelters. That goal remains the same.”

Featuring performances by Dana BeelerJenny MacDonaldStewart Legere, and Amelia CurranLove Does was planned in response, but not in opposition, to the headliner announcement for the Energy Rush series this summer.

“When the city’s collective attention was turned to the issue of domestic violence, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to do some good and hopefully take a step, however small, toward making a change for the better,” says co-organizer Jen Ochej. “We hope not only to raise funds to support the amazing work done by these three shelters to assist victims of domestic violence, but also to draw more attention to the shelters themselves and hopefully increase long-term support for them.”

Love Does is in support of Alice Housing, Adsum for Women & Children, and Bryony House, and tickets are on sale now for $20 advance, or for $25 at the door. For tickets:http://lovedoeshfx.eventbrite.ca.
