Crafting a Communications Strategy - a workshop for non-profit organizations. Includes a side trip into low-cost (or free) communications tools.

May 3/2013, 9:30-4:30, Halifax Nova Scotia.

A one-day workshop for non-profit groups’ staff, board members and volunteers…with a focus on low-budget, big impact solutions.

This one-day, interactive workshop will cover:

Situational analysis, looking for obstacles & opportunities
Communications strategy as a key element of organizational branding
Organizational objectives and Communications objectives (they are different!)
Identifying stakeholders – their needs and their influence
Developing core messages & getting to the heart of your story
Determing key communications methods & tools (with a look at low-cost solutions)
Creating a press plan
Creating a PR plan
Creating a social media plan
Hammering out a workplan & timelines
Preparing for evaluation

Participants will leave the workshop with knowledge of the fundamentals of creating a communications plan, plus practical ideas for managing your organization’s communications outreach. This professional development opportunity will be interactive and enjoyable – participants will have the chance to discuss their organizations, and get ideas on communications solutions.

Professional development communications workshops like this can cost many hundreds of dollars. This ‘primer’ workshop is geared for the non-profit sector, and offered at a low-cost of $150 per participant, which includes handouts.

The workshop is led by Sean Kelly, Head of Communications, Media and Branding for Cuso International, one of Canada`s largest international development organizations. He is responsible for communications strategy, social networking, media outreach, and organizational branding.

Sean offers 20 years of experience in communications, writing, story editing, film & radio production, public engagement and social marketing. He has taken professional development training in organizational branding, crisis communications, low-cost marketing, strategic communications and social marketing.

COST: $150 per participant. Fee includes handouts, tea, coffee and snacks (lunch is not provided, but there are many restaurants nearby). Please bring your own mug.
