- 12:00pm
Friday June 15 2012

Venue: Constituency office of Premier Darrell Dexter
Address: 971 Cole Harbour Road, Cole Harbour Nova Scotia, B2V 1E8
Cost: Free

Event: Nova Scotia Union of Public and Private Employees and other local unions are holding an information picket to support the striking workers of NSUPE local 22, and to call on the government to enact legislation banning strike-breakers.

Background: The workers of local 22 of the Nova Scotia Union of Public and Private employees have been on strike for five weeks. They are the cleaners, operations, and security workers at Cole Harbour place. The majority of the workers earn $10.37 per hour. The employer has been using strike-breakers (scabs) in order to break the strike and force the workers to return to work for wages which are, in many cases, below the poverty line.
