Minutes for April 24 HMC meeting

Blog posts reflect the views of their authors.

Present: Ben Sichel, Hillary Lindsay, Glen Canning, Mark Cunningham

Agenda:
1) Skillshare Series
a) Getting the word out
b) Hand out for workshops
c) Outlines for workshops
2) CUPW presentation on Saturday
3) Discussion on website and new editorial process

1 a) Hillary will send out the workshop email again. Please forward it to all relevant lists!
Erica did up a poster. Glen and Mark will print up posters and put them up in Armdale and Sackville areas. Hillary will get a bunch printed and she Vivian and Erica will put them up in key places in Halifax.

b) Hillary sent out an outline for the handout for the workshops. Folks have until Thursday evening to add/change stuff, make suggestions etc. Ben will copyedit the text Thursday evening and Glen will format it into a pamphlet.

c) Glen and Hillary both went over their outlines for the print and video workshops. We plan to keep the workshops to 2 hours. Those doing workshops should send out their outlines to the media coop list.

2) Hillary is doing a presentation at a CUPW GMM this Saturday at 10am. Anyone interested in helping out/attending should email Hillary.

3) We breifly discussed how a new editing process for articles might work. Ben will send out an email over the media coop list to get a discussion going. Questions raised: Should articles 'endorsed' by the coop only be the ones that have gone through an editing process? How rigorous a process will it bet? How do we balance the time commitment of editing and keeping new/fresh content on the site?

Dru is working on modifying the website so there are two different streams of articles, one featured set of articles and a 'raw feed' of unedited/ unendorsed articles.

We discussed putting a link to a code of conduct (along the lines of what Glen sent out on the list) into our writers guidelines.

things needed on the site:

- a contact link
- an about page
- can folks edit their bios on the site?

Next Meeting: Thursday April 2, 4:30 Alter Egos. All Welcome.
