Plan B will continue to be behind pharmacy counter

Blog posts reflect the views of their authors.

The morning after product is accessible without a prescription. However, the pill is only accessible behind a pharmacy counter, with ID. The move to keep Plan B behind the counter was led by Kathleen Sebelius, head of the department of Health and Human Services. These constraints may make it harder to get then before. http://www.newsytype.com/  for Plan B A lot of testing went into Plan B by the FDA. Now, the FDA suggests drugstores sell Plan B over the counter. The cause of this change is that Plan B is now considered safe. The hormones it produces are effective and secure for the body. There are not very many side effects that could occur. That means there was not a whole lot of risk when deciding to put the narcotic on the shelves. Acetaminophen and aspirin are known to have higher risks than the drugs in Plan B. FDA recommendation overruled Plan B might turn out to be used by young girls who do not know how or why the drug is used. This is why Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius overruled the Food and Drug Administration advice. Only individuals over the age of 17 will have access to Plan B still by showing ID. The decision was defended by Obama. He said that Sebelius is “applying some common sense” to the situation. Conscience clauses and Plan B The reason individuals wanted to move Plan B was due to the “conscience clause.” It was leaving consumers without access to the drug. Conscience clauses are a try to shield pharmacists from prosecution if they choose not to dispense drugs they morally disagree with, including Plan B. Most conscience clauses are not considered valid in the courtroom: The unanimous ruling on the free-exercise clause could portend further judgments, as the case moves forward, that a patient’s right to timely medication supersedes a pharmacist’s personal convictions. Any women who can find the right pharmacist, are older than 17 and have identification to prove that will be able to get this emergency contraception until the conscience clause question is figured out.
